The SEIU NJ State Council represents men and women who work in the following areas:
Nursing Home and Home Care Workers
1199SEIU New Jersey Region with over 7,000 workers represents the largest percentage of long term care workers in the State. Our nursing home members include certified nurse’s assistants, LPNs, Recreational Aides, Maintenance, Dietary Workers and Housekeepers. We also represent hundreds of Home Health Aides who also provide direct care to elderly and disabled individuals throughout the state.
Municipal Service Workers
Millions of families across New Jersey depend on public service employees for their safety, health, education, childcare, and hundreds of other vital services. As the first local union in Newark to organize public sector workers over thirty years ago, SEIU Local 617 has been on the frontlines of fighting for the rights of working men and women.
Motor Vehicle Inspections Workers
For more than forty years, SEIU Local 518 members have been on the frontlines of the fight for clean air and safe roads. Our members work at auto inspection centers, motor vehicle agencies, and on highways throughout the State to enforce motor vehicle laws and regulations. The public services Local 518 members perform contribute greatly to the effort by the State of New Jersey to protect its citizens from the effects of unhealthy auto emissions and the dangers of unsafe vehicles on our congested roadways.
The Committee of Interns and Residents/SEIU (CIR/SEIU), founded in 1957, is the country’s largest and oldest housestaff union. CIR represents more than 12,000 resident physicians in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Florida, California, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. In 1997, CIR affiliated with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), becoming part of the 700,000-strong SEIU Health Care Alliance.
