Aug. 21, 2013 – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) New Jersey State Council, representing 40,000 service workers in the private and public sectors around the state, announced its endorsement of Barbara Buono for Governor of New Jersey and her running mate Milly Silva.

“Throughout her years in Trenton, Barbara Buono has demonstrated she understands the myriad of issues faced by working families, the middle class, seniors and our diverse communities in New Jersey, and we know she will continue her fight for what is right and just as our next governor along with Milly Silva,” said Rahaman Muhammad, Council President, and President of Local 617.

“Barbara Buono is a fighter who is seeking the governor’s seat because she truly cares about the men, women and children who call New Jersey home, and she along with Milly will tackle economic problems such as joblessness that many have faced these past four years,” said Tim Foley, Council Secretary-Treasurer, and Political Director of CIR (Committee of Interns and Residents).

“Senator Buono has stood with us on issues such as the need to raise the minimum wage, marriage equality, and immigration reform, and we now proudly stand with her and Milly Silva,” said Wilfredo Larancuent, Council Trustee, and Co-Manager of the Laundry, Distribution and Food Service Joint Board, Workers United.
