Public Service Workers
Millions of families across New Jersey depend on public service employees for their safety, health, education, childcare, and hundreds of other vital services.
As the first local union in Newark to organize public sector workers over thirty years ago, SEIU Local 617 has been on the frontlines of fighting for the rights of working men and women.
The Local has been involved in supporting community based activities and events such as the African American and Hispanic Heritage Month parades. Local 617 also established a Community Service Plaque award, presented each year to outstanding Newark high school students who have been active in their community.
