NEWARK – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) New Jersey State Council, representing 40,000 service workers in the private and public sectors around the state, today announced its congressional endorsements for the November 2014 elections.
“We are confident the women and men that we are backing truly understand the social and economic issues facing labor and our workers in New Jersey, and will be our voices in Congress,” said Wilfredo Larancuent, Council President, and Co-Manager of the Laundry, Distribution and Food Service Joint Board, Workers United.
“It is essential that we support officeholders and candidates who will tackle income inequality and high unemployment rates, and who will fight to protect and strengthen Medicaid and Medicare programs for our working class families and seniors throughout New Jersey,” said Milly Silva, Council Vice President, and Executive Vice President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, New Jersey Region.
“More than ever, we need people in Washington who demonstrate keen leadership skills and compassion for their constituents, and we are looking forward to working with those we have endorsed in the coming years,” said Tim Foley, Council Secretary-Treasurer, and Political Director of CIR (Committee of Interns and Residents).
“We need decision-makers down in Washington who will fight on behalf of our working and middle-class families and who will not compromise when it comes to their lives, future and dignity, and these are the women and men that will do just that,” said Kevin Brown, New Jersey State Director for SEIU 32BJ.
