SEIU NJ STATE COUNCIL ENDORSES CORY BOOKER FOR U.S. SENATE

AUG. 14, 2013 – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) New Jersey State Council, representingbooker 40,000 service workers in the private and public sectors around the state, voted today to endorse Cory Booker for U.S. Senate.

“It is crucial that our next U.S. Senator from New Jersey be someone who will proudly represent New Jersey’s working men and women and our diverse communities, and who will bring progressive ideas to Congress, and that person is Cory Booker,” said Rahaman Muhammad, Council President, and President of Newark-based Local 617.  “We congratulate him on his primary win, and we look forward to his victory in October and his leadership in the U.S. Senate for many years to come.”

“We are excited about Cory Booker’s vision for New Jersey and we are confident he will work to ensure the voices of our working families are heard all the way to Washington, D.C.” said Tim Foley, Council Secretary-Treasurer, and Political Director of CIR (Committee of Interns and Residents).

“We know that Cory Booker will tackle the federal issues that impact our workers and their families, and that he will hit the ground running as a U.S. senator, and we are very pleased to support his election efforts,” said Wilfredo Larancuent, Council Trustee, and Co-Manager of the Laundry, Distribution and Food Service Joint Board, Workers United.
